New’ish listener catching up here. I feel compelled to launch a protest against your statement on Edmund’s vanity for reading aloud. As I understand, you believe that he strives to read well to gain the admiration of the congregation and “show off.”
I have heard enough both well reading and eeeerhh not so well reading pastors to believe Edmund’s motives to be entirely altruistic! When hearing bible passages read aloud, the skill of the reader is instrumental in how well you understand and relate to the text! In my opinion Edmund’s concern is to further the religious sentiment and understanding of his congregation.
